The 3.8 V6 Coupe gets its Stoptech Big Brakes!

Last week, we showed you pictures of the MODE Racing 3.8 V6 being dropped off at Stoptech so that the 3.8 V6 Genesis Coupe crowd can have a shot at having some big brakes. Especially when SEMA is around the corner, we had to make sure that the 3.8 V6 has the appropriate look!

In this picture, it’s really hard to see them due to the black on black on black (aka the Vader look) but they’re there! Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

The front brakes consists of their 6 piston caliper and a larger diameter slotted front rotor. This will give a strong initial bite when encountering hard braking.

The rear also received an appropriate upgrade with a smaller, lighter, but just as potent 4 piston caliper and larger diameter rotor!

We noticed an immediate difference between the stock vs. the Stoptech Big Brake Kit. We will be testing these more and more during the fall and winter at various track events.

Stoptech Brakes can be purchased through MODE Racing by contacting sales@moderacing.com and contact us for special offers for any products that we use on our demonstration vehicles!

Recent Dyno Session at HBSpeed with the 2.0T

The 2.0T has been in town in Southern California from its peaceful life in Utah for quite some time now. The So Cal crew has been busy making sure that everyone knows it’s around. It made its way through the SEIBON Carbon meet and it has been at HBSpeed in Fountain Valley, CA for the past couple of weeks being worked on by their Head Tuner, Jon.

The 2.0T has been going through many preparations for the up coming Redline Time Attack in Spring Mountain in about 2 and a half weeks. This dyno session was to play more with the Poweraxel module to see how much more power we can get out of this stock turbo until we can go bigger, better, and badder (hint hint).

A few new additions to the Genesis since it was last tuned:

A prototype MODE Racing Front Mount Intercooler with MODE Racing Hard Pipes:

Piping Wrapping to keep the temps down plus a MODE Racing Air Box with Intake:

But for the most part, it’s pretty “stock” with no major work done:

The 2.0T will be heading out to see how well these parts will last in the harsh conditions of racing and making sure that each product is thoroughly tested before released!

Aesthetically, little has changed as we will be getting a few new changes on it before the SEMA show in a couple of months. Of course, the new MODE Racing logo adorns the flanks and rear of the Genesis Coupe.

The Genesis Coupe made its way on the rollers for a few pulls late in the night.

In the end the Genesis Coupe was able to churn out a respectable power chart:

The end result? 251 whp and 295 ft/lbs of torque!

Mind you, this is without major engine work and was specifically tuned for track use / time attack. The Poweraxel Modules are still available from MODE Racing by contacting sales@moderacing.com! All other products that are featured on the MODE Racing Genesis Coupe will be out shortly.
Video of the dyno pulls will be up shortly!

MODE Racing featured on Redline Time Attack Poster and Ad!

Richard from D-Sport Magazine was nice enough to give me an advanced copy of the new October 2009 issue. As I skimmed through the pages, I saw this:

The Genesis Coupe is featured on the ad! Of course we’ll be there in full force competing in the Modified Rear Wheel Drive class against the top drivers in the nation, but expect a few surprises before this event that will allow us to possibly be on the podium!

Mode Racing Marketing

July 21, 2009 (Orange County, CA) July 21, 2009 – During the annual SpoCom event in Long Beach on June 14th, MODE Racing’s 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T was showcased in the Redline Time Attack booth. The coupe attracted the attention of MotoIQ, a new automotive online magazine. Staff from MotoIQ decided to do a feature article and photoshoot of the coupe on the spot.

The MotoIQ website is a breath of fresh air among the vast selection of automotive websites. MotoIQ is not just another website that showcases cars, it features a plethora of technical articles, part reviews, and event coverage. As soon as the SpoCom event finished, the MODE Racing crew took the Genesis Coupe to get photographed for the full feature. Full coverage can be found here: http://www.motoiq.com/MagazineArticles/tabid/59/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/917/In-the-Beginning.aspx

This highlights how the Genesis Coupe has created such a buzz in such a short amount of time. This feature article brings credibility to MODE Racing as an established group in the automotive industry. MODE Racing’s Coupe is one of a select few participating in various Time Attack series. Everyone at MODE Racing is very proud of this milestone in the Genesis Coupe’s journey into racing history.

MODE Racing would like to thank the following sponsors for their ongoing and generous support: Cusco, Enkei Wheels, Genesisforums.org, HB Speed, Hyundai Motors of America, Instyle Graphics, JE Pistons, JRZ Suspension Engineering, Motul, Rhys Millen Racing, Schroth Racing, Stoptech and Toyo Tires.

Coilovers, Forgestar Wheels, and Toyo Tires for our 3.8 Genesis Coupe!

Well, as much coverage as the 2.0T Genesis Coupe has been getting that doesn’t mean that we have forgotten the 3.8 V6 Genesis Coupe! Many pieces on the 3.8 V6 Genesis Coupe have been going out to our engineering department for R&D and that is why it’s been out of the spotlight. However, since we were able to get it out of Robispec along with our spiffy carbon pieces, there were a few things that needed to be installed at one of our favorite places to hang out, dyno tune, and install our goodies at HBSpeed in Fountain Valley, CA.

Before we got started, the stickers came off while we got ready for a new graphic scheme:

Also, another glance at the new SEIBON “TS” Style carbon fiber hood:

Here is our new wheel from Forgestar Wheels. They are the Forgestar F14 Wheels in the Matte Black finish. The sizes are 19 x 8.5 front and 19 x 9.5 in the rear with a slick concave look. The tires are supplied by Toyo Tires and they are the T1R’s. These are going to be a great combo for street driving which the car is going to see a lot of. Also, these wheels are specific made to fit the Genesis Coupe and the wheels do come with hub centric rings for the perfect fit!.

As much as we wanted to slap on the Forgestar wheels and call it a day, it would look very awkward riding high up in the sky. So, we’ve taken the coilover system that was on the 2.0T Time Attack car and swapped it over onto our 3.8 V6 Coupe. Billy, owner and Time Attack Driver, got started by taking off the stock suspension which is pretty straight forward. As Billy jokingly commented “Once you’ve taken the suspension on and off a few times, it’s pretty easy”.

While Billy was removing the stock suspension on the passenger side, Jason was getting the driver side prepared for measurement as we dropped the 3.8 V6 Coupe on Coilovers. Here’s a preview of what the wheels will look like on the Coupe but with the saggy stock suspension.

Here’s Jason doing measurements on the drop. We brought the car down to simulate stock height with the stock suspension. Jason loves to be accurate (he’s an engineer by trade) so there’s no “eyeballing” it here with this guy.

Meanwhile Billy and Mr. Brooks (Billy’s father) were busy unpacking the coilovers, preparing to install it onto the coupe.

Billy was busy unpacking the front strut of the coilover system.

And then installing it into the Coupe.

The front camber plates from up top.

Working on the rear suspension.

As you can see from the inside, there’s plenty of room between the wheel/tire and the coilover. The guys at Forgestar did their homework!

The coilovers required the factory mount so we had to remove it and transfer it.

Here is the rear installed.

Here is Jason and Billy “zeroing” the camber measurement tool so that we can get accurate camber measurement before we started driving the car off into the street. The problem is that many people install coilovers without even thinking of an alignment and it’s one of the most crucial things you have to do before even driving a few miles with your new coilovers.

Also, while we were doing alignments, Jason was double checking and triple checking the ride height for passenger and driver sides and making sure that the vehicle had the proper rake. Again, no “eyeballing” allowed for Jason.

Not so much “sag” with the new coilovers and the wheels. Much better!

Jason is adjusting the dampening on the rear of the vehicle here.

Jason and Billy also had to reinstall the rear sway bar.

Billy smiling… just needed to throw this in there.

Here’s the car backing out of HBSpeed’s massive garage. Did you want to see how it looks??? Well, hold your horses!

You’ll have to come back to this blog soon to see how it looks!!!

New Seibon Carbon Fiber Parts for the Genesis Coupes!

Fresh from SEIBON are the OEM Style front hood and rear trunk and a really nice vented “TS” style Hood. MODE Racing is the first and ONLY ones with these pieces in the World!

Nicely packaged was first, the OEM style hood. The quality was second to none. The clearcoat was nice and shiney and the weight, well, it was far lighter than the stock one that Jason and I had to remove from the cars. It took two of us to remove the OEM hood and the SEIBON hood was blantantly lighter.

Next was the trunk and this was a very light piece! The weave was excellent and very well made. All the holes on the parts are pre-drilled for easy installation. We were very pleased.

Showing that it’s a genuine SEIBON Carbon peice. As I mentioned earlier, the parts come pre-drilled and excessive amounts of fiberglass were removed. This shows that the quality of the part is far better than copies you will probably see in the next few months floating around ebay and other sites that sell hoods for dirt cheap. MODE Racing only uses parts that are of high quality on the project cars.

Finally the “TS” style hood from SEIBON. This will probably be one of the more popular hoods that is going to be offered by SEIBON. The vents are pre cut and smoothed out. Quite functional as it will flow all the hot air out of the engine bay. All even weaves around the vents as well. Some of the lower quality ones show uneven weaves around vents.

Here’s a close look at the vents:

Keep an eye out on the blog as we install these parts on our project cars! For more information, please contact SEIBON Carbon and let them know that MODE Racing sent you!
